20 Arrested During #NoDAPL Lockdown; Including 2 Unicorn Riot Journalists

UPDATE: Both Unicorn Riot journalists have been bonded out for jail after being booked on misdemeanor charges of Criminal Trespass.  Our understanding is that most of the arrested water protectors got out of jail Tuesday night as well.

Tuesday, September 13 — Multiple lockdowns took place at two Dakota Access Pipeline construction sites. All work has stopped for the day. While a surveillance plane and helicopter circled overhead, police on the ground blocked all road access to both sites.

Approximately 100 riot police arrived to at least one site, armed with assault rifles and less-lethal weapons. Around 20 people were arrested at the site of the #NoDAPL lockdown, including medics and two Unicorn Riot journalists. As arrests were under way, Facebook censored our live video stream.

“So they’re pointing at everyone with cameras saying, he’s going, she’s going…So, it seems like they’re targeting media for arrest. We might be getting arrested here…” — Unicorn Riot journalist, via live video stream, just before being arrested while covering #NoDAPL action in North Dakota.

UPDATE: We are currently attempting to contact our ground team and get them released from police custody ASAP. Thank you for supporting frontline independent media.
